Starting a career as a Digital PR Specialist during a pandemic

I moved to Nottingham after a long 4 months of being furloughed from a hospitality job, keen to finally start a career in the media since graduating from university.

I was lucky to come across the RedTree PR recruitment post, followed by a presentation to Managing Director Chris Mitchell who was impressed by my professional attitude and previous social media experience.

I had been working remotely from September 2020 to March 2021 on an extended internship, so already had been accustomed to working remotely. RedTree PR were extremely accommodating by setting me up with a work Mac and an ‘office starter pack’ equipped with stationary, snacks and teabags!

Upon starting at RedTree, Chris and I sat on many meetings to discuss the RedTree methodology, background on existing clients and the basics on writing press releases and developing relationships with national and regional media.

Chris has been great with remote communication, setting up zoom meetings every morning to go through the daily tasks and being on call for any questions or queries. Since the relaxation of restrictions, we have been able to work collaboratively in a shared workspace and been to meet clients face to face over lunch.

RedTree PR has taught me how to build meaningful PR strategies for our clients and write impactful press releases to celebrate business success. My confidence when it comes to liaising with journalists has improved, developing my professional and interpersonal skills.

I’m looking forward to developing within the business of RedTree PR and taking on any new challenges and opportunities in the future!
